Scent, memory, and emotion go hand in hand, a powerful trio that can transport you to happy places and set the vibe in a home.
We love how effective scent can be in interior design but we also know that choosing the right scent for your home can be a daunting decision. Are you more about the musk or light florals? It is, after all, all about creating a space that feels safe and comfortable, and the best scent for your home can make or break that feeling.
To us, scent is just as important as the rug or the console, the finishing element to a space to call home. Here, Shea recalls some of her favorite memories associated with a few of our favorite scents from our Pura x Studio McGee collaboration. We hope these memories can help you determine how to choose a scent for your home.

Seaside Terrace

“Every year my family visits a little town called Seaside along the Florida Panhandle’s pristine white sands. There’s nothing more rejuvenating than the combination of sea, salt, and sun. Seaside Terrace gives me that feeling and transports me to those special moments spent with my family.”

“Living in Utah means that there are four distinct seasons. While I love the change and the opportunity to embrace the seasons through design, there’s nothing better than when spring starts to push through the cold and cozy winter season. I was inspired by a trip to Mallorca Syd and I took a few years ago, and I wanted to bring that same fresh scent to my home in Utah, regardless of the season.”

Santal Vanilla

“When I was growing up, nearly every single Sunday was spent in the kitchen with my mom. We’d pull out the flour and the sugar and the salt and the vanilla and get to making a treat we’d share as a family. Santal Vanilla always fills my house with the feeling of home.”

Wild Sage

“When we first started Studio McGee, I would take walks every morning to clear my head before diving into the grind of starting a new business. There was a trail near our home at the time that smelled of sage and would help me feel balanced and put my mind at ease. I have Wild Sage in my studio to keep me relaxed and focused on creating.”

Sea Salt Driftwood

“My happiest memories are on the beach with my girls, watching them laugh and play in the sand. Every time I smell Sea Salt Driftwood it takes me back to those days spent together as a family. I have it scheduled on my Pura app to release every morning in the bathroom, starting the day with some sunshine and salty air vibes.”

“On our 10th anniversary, Syd and I went to Italy’s Amalfi Coast. It was a trip I’ve always wanted to do and being there far exceeded my expectations for how special the colorful architecture, ornate tiles and ceilings, and dramatic cliffs would be. The smell of White Bergamot and citrus transports me back to our walks through those tiny streets.”
